Waving Pine Design
Waving Pine Design began with a vision to honor our planet through artwork inspired and derived from nature. At a time when ecosystems are under existential threat, my goal is to promote a more thoughtful way of living.
The materials I use reflect my appreciation and love for nature. I make my own watercolor paints from earth and mineral pigments and use as many natural materials in my artwork as possible. I source my wood locally by collecting it in my local forests or purchasing it from artisan millers in my area. I strive for an eco-conscious way of living, and these materials help me bring that commitment into my work.
The forms and patterns in my designs are inspired by natural elements. My series ‘Field Notes’ highlights the passion I have for identifying different plants and mushrooms. Similar to botanical drawings, I have the botanical name identified on the piece and my painted rendition of the specimen.
When I’m not painting plants and mushrooms, I gravitate towards abstract art, where I explore using different materials. I am currently working on a series using two contrasting textures: my handmade watercolors, and clay plaster. For my work to feel successful, I need there to be an element of fluidity and ease within each piece. The fluid connection between the elements in my abstract work are a direct reflection of the interconnectedness of all life that I aim to convey in my work.
